We are proud to announce that our 27th Annual Senior Variety Show, “Decades Deli—Serving Up Your Favorites,” is nearly ready. Previews are past and we are heading full speed toward show week! It will be held Friday, August 18 at 7:30pm; and Saturday, August 19 at 2pm in Ames City Auditorium.
The theme not only refers to songs and events that represent different decades but also the decades of our performers, aging 60-94! There will be over 90 Story County seniors performing this year with close to 20 brand-new faces! Among the fabulous acts we have a mother/daughter team for the first time AND an Elvis impersonator! Are you a tap dancing fan, a baseball fanatic, a WWI historian, a lover of old songs, an appreciator of humor, creativity, and senior pizazz? Then this show’s for you!
The stage alone will be stunning with the use of Jo Meyers-Walker’s artistic stellar backdrop depicting travel through time. To emphasize the decades flavor there will also be mannequins on display from Moorman’s Clothier, dressed to perfection by ACTOR’s costumer, Lynn Lloyd.
It truly takes a village to produce this show. It would not be possible without the 80 behind-scenes-volunteers, over 30 sponsoring businesses/organizations, community grants from Discover Ames and Ames Commission on the Arts, and our Premier Sponsor this year, Northcrest Community. With this kind of senior support, this community is indeed a great place to retire…and get “re-tired!”
Tickets are $10 at Worldly Goods, 223 Main St. and Burgie’s Coffee North, 2701 Stange Rd., in Ames; Sweet Dreams Mattress Center, 1136 6th in Nevada; and RSVP/Senior Center, 503 Elm Ave. in Story City. They will be $12 at the door. The net proceeds go toward local senior projects and programs.
Yes, it promises to be another marvelous show! So grab your coat and get your hat…AND your ticket…and we will see you there!
